Five questions for Richie Redding

In recent years Richie Redding’s boy band looks and colorful word selection have gained him much attention. As a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania it was unlikely that his comedy career start off in urban rooms and burlesque shows, but that’s how it happened. Redding left the corporate world determined to get paid to have fun which is obvious every time he takes the stage. His set is edgy, high energy and autobiographical, drawing on a lifetime of ridiculous true stories that can only happen to a recovering alcoholic Ivy Leaguer that lives in the ‘hood. Redding will perform locally at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. from Dec. 21 through 23 at FunnyBone Comedy Club in Crossgates Mall.

1 One of your career bullet points is opening for Katt Williams in arenas all over the country. What is the highlight of those experiences?

I’ve done over 150 shows with him and it’s always electric. His audience plays for keeps; you either kill it or bomb. I’ll never forget seeing some poor dude get booed off stage and then going out and getting myself a standing O. If it wasn’t for that guy eating it I probably wouldn’t have gone so hard, but the sound of 10,000 people booing really wakes you up.

2 What’s your craziest on tour experience?
For the rest...)
